Just finished vaping wooden hives (majority from under the floor mesh). Next, it’s the Poly Nucs – I use simple Varrox (Hot-Pan) vaporiser – Are there any non-too onerous (in terms of construction) suggestions as to how to go about P. Nucs?

How about making a tray using 2"x 1" and a sheet of ply, big enough for the nuc to sit on? Leave an access point for the varrox, which can be sealed with foam.

Edit:
Or get one of John's GAS-VAPS, they really are good.

Here is a thread of a tray i made to take the heated pan type vaporizer .. i made it out of plaster board as it takes some burning...i use it now for the Gas Vap which does the same job but a little quicker..

I'm sure John is big enough and wise enough to know whether his mask works or not...anyway this thread is not on about ppe or is me missing something..

Before I got Johns Gas-vap I got some fire retardant furniture foam and stuck it to a piece of plywood to give a base. I cut the centre of the foam out and made a slit along the front so the pan could be inserted. I put a silicone mat inside the cut out for the pan to rest upon.

Poly nucs of any size simply sat and top and the sponge made a nice tight seal.

Not for me to comment as you / he can please yourselves if you take PPE seriously or not... just that the video and the dust mask and amount of oxallic acid vapour floating around all looked a bit iffy..... I would not want to get up in all the gear the acid bath murderer wore.. but then I valued my lungs as a free diver... never smoked either!!

Will shut up on the subject now!!

I use to use an old baking tray and a few bricks to lift the nuc up. Put the vapper on the tray under the mesh floor and blast away.

Always worked.

Make a little eke up - the prototype was just jury rigged from a few bits of scrap plywood, the second, more robust and stable one made from the pointless battens supplied to go on the inside of a hive roof (both took just a couple of minutes to construct). Slot for the Varrox to fit in, placed on a flat heat proof surface (I just use an adjacent hive roof, close the nuc up, lift on to the eke, vape, then put the nuc back on its stand.

Bit useless if you are in the middle of nowhere that has no flat roofs ..

even someone of little wit would then just take a piece of ply or sheet metal for the job - or use the one they use for vaping under the floor of full size hives

Thank you for your concern, i can assure you the mask i wear is very effective
for dust and vapours

if you were dealing with gas and smoke you would need something more suitable and a filter suitable for the gas you are dealing with,
remember gas and vapours are not the same

i prefer :facts:

"jury rigged"
A new one?

a nautical term, used in the 18th and 19th centuries a lot - still used at sea now, indicating a quick and easy fix (another nautical term) usually temporary from the French 'jour' meaning day ie something rigged up in a day.
Fix is from the Latin or French - to fasten or attach and usually applied to when a mast was jury rigged by fastening another spar to it as a splint

Thanks for all that information, I would never have considered you as being a Jack Tar
