6, I resisted 10 mins but 2 ways best was...
(5 of 6 top occurring letters, only guarantee of 4)

Spent a while wondering if new was really better, taking out the luck. If I consider the other 14 it could have left me a group of 4 for a worst case 5, I think. Possibly old was best method - though old line 2 could have had much worse results too if I consider all 102 other possibles (it's a brain ache to know.) I'd need to write some code for that...
