Bob,
Pleased to hear things went well. Now you have your own experience on the 'rule' and know how to address any future challenges,

All the best,
Sam

I moved two hives last night 1.4 miles back home for the winter, you can actually see a church that is next to my house from where they were sited.

I have been waiting for the weather to break, really windy and a little cooler here today and looks to be cooling down over next few days.

Taking advise from here I leaned a crown board over entrance to hives so bees had to make there way around this and faced hives towards a large hedge in the opposite direction to original site.

I also feed both hives this morning with syrup at around 8.30am.

I replaced hives with nuc boxes full of frames in exact position as original hives to collect any returning bees.

Checked tonight and found 6 bees and 4 wasp in one and around 15 bees in the other.

Bees have been busy all day re-orientating to the new hive positions so all looks to have gone well.

I will leave the nuc boxes in place for a few days.

just as another thought. roughly where in cornwall are you? ie how far from bodmin? I am sure in future if you get reallly stuck I could ask one of the farms I am on if a hive could sit in a field for a few weeks

Thanks for the offer, I should be able to manage as I now have three sites over a 4 mile run so with a bit of juggling I should be able to manage most cases. My middle site is the only one with no people around, so that's the only one I can put any nasty's on while I deal with them.
