They are a gravity fix.......
....... but most of us still use webbing straps round the hives to try to ensure high winds or passing cows or yobbos don't knock them over.

I am a big fan of strapping hives, for the 10secs it takes to undo and then redo after an inspection / manipulation, it gives me great piece of mind that the hive is secure baring the whole lot being tipped over!
