question is do we feed syrup or fondant in this barmy weather 11-12c yesterday warmer today did i miss winter somewhere:confused:

not with the weather forcast for the next few days 15c in aberdeen madness

still don't feed syrup. Too much water content for them. weak syrup in spring, fondant till then

Mine are bringing in pollen from somewhere.
As were mine yesterday and today. Very deep yellow. Would love to know where from, as there's diddly squat out there. Viburnum somewhere maybe?

Mahonia?

I haven't checked on the chatrs to see what colour the pollen is, but there is a lot of it flowering near me.

I Think we are in for a bad spell, lots of berries about this year. Bad sign means cold winter on its way, watch january, february and march. we will have a long freeze.

sorry to say every trend/forecast model says its staying a mobile westerly and mild, no signs of any 'cold' in the next 2 weeks, best temp drop seems to hint at average at times but not much lower

well everyone saying theres no holly berris about lots of mistletoe though normaly the other way round on cold winters so i would say not much of a cold spell coming

We have a rose, camillia, rhododendron, jasmine, mock orange and an unknown climber in flower - absolutely nuts

I would have thought that a lot of berries simply meant the previous spring had been mild enough to allow pollinating insects to do their job.
The fieldfares and waxwings have stripped much of the hawthorn and hips which earlier had made the trees and hedgerows red from a distance.

Windy and wet forecast here for the next ten days. No sign of frost.

Sorry to spoil the myth but loads of berries indicates what last spring/summer were like- not next season
