A question for the wise ones on here ,had a look at the hive today that a swarm that arrived last week and they seem to be building cell cups on 4 frames in the brood box they have a super that they are filling well and an extra super with foundation on top they still have plenty of room in the brood box for the Q to lay up am just a bit puzzled ,queens big and laying well it seems any ideas?

Regards Eric

Well bees swarm when they think they can expand their colony and the OLD queen does off with the swarm. As she is old, she will be replaced, probably sooner rather than later.
Also, all colonies make cups as a standby so they they can make Q cells quickly if the need arises.
