Sugar Farm Subsidy

Of course, what we pay over the counter is not the end of the story - there's farm subsidy.

Since 2000, Tate & Lyle across Europe has received Euro 883 million in subsidy from the EU - most of it received by the UK company. Are farm subsidies intended to prop up multi-national companies so that they can make more dividend for their shareholders? What happened to supporting the small producer?

If you doubt the above figures have a look at http://farmsubsidy.openspending.org/search/?q=tate+&+Lyle

had an email today from bookers they are doing 2x25kg sugar for £21 that is 42p per kg and that's before the BBKA discount we get. which will take it below 40p per kg and the price is set until at least 9th September.

Indeed. 'We' in Europe have decided that it's a good idea to pay for food partly a the till and partly through general taxation.

If I could get on the bbka website with my membership number I could let you know but the damn thing never works. I was told it is a further 5% though by a member at our local bka

How much discount is that?

Just checked on the BBKA site. It is saying we save money by getting the wholesale price after using our membership to register our a/c . Any more offers would have to come from Booker I expect?

Having just packed 100 Libl 1kg bags into a trolley today I can understand the convenience of 25kg bags. Going back for another 100 tomorrow.
