ASDA seams to be the cheapest at £1.29 for 2kg bee-smillie bee-smillie bee-smillie

Asda on line are now £1.49 for 2kgs.

Tesco and Orcado seem to match each other, up in the case of sugar, but isn't this another form of price fixing but maybe they are unaware of what they are doing:rolleyes: wonder if TS have picked up on this?

Sugar is actually classed as a commodity in the same way as gold and crude oil, and as such traded in the same way.

"green" issues have pushed prices up as driven by ethanol

Not so sure that's the case with Tesco's 30p jump and their in store claim @ £1.89..

It is! Because the demand for Bio ethanol drives up the price of sugars raw materials (cane or beet).

Remember this is world issue, even bigger than Tescos, although sometimes Tescos does appear to be world dominating.

jim - true - global commodity prices may well the reason for Tesco RAISING prices from the previous £1.29...

BUT that does not justify the false statement "NEW LOWER PRICE"!!!!

We have 6284 members so most of country covered by people with interest in best sugar prices. We all know tesco stores and online were offering the LOWER price until sometime last week. The £1.89 higher price has definitely NOT been offered in MOST Tesco stores recently as stated.

ASDA WAS £1.29 for 2Kg earlier in the week.

Yesterday I bought 300Kg from the same shop at £1.49 for 2Kg. banghead:

i didn't notice the price rise until it had gone through the till.

Top marks for Waitrose in Headington Oxfordshire with an order of 200kg @ £1.43 per 2kg fulfilled with out a price rise!

I also got assistance loading up the landy and an offer to help with further orders in the future.

A much more postive shopping experience than certain other supermarkets....

Surely that is £1.43 per 2kg not per kilo, if not then the help loading was expensive

Quite right it. It was £1.43 per 2kg....Dunno where the "2" went!

went to tesco today and asked to speak to manager.

he had no idea what was going on with the sugar price in store. when asked why the price had actually gone up not down. he said that it may have only been on sale at that price in one store.

he was very evasive and when i asked to make an official complaint and he directed me to the tescos website. what if i didnt have a computer "everybody does, thats why we ask people to make complaints on the site."

I think maybe its time for the welsh dragon on watchdog to receive a complaint from all of us. that would make them listen.

.the labels in store specifically say:

"NEW LOWER PRICE - £1.89 previously charged in MOST (my caps) stores."

so his excuse is flawed.

we all know about those "phantom" single stores that apparently charged higher prices in last 28 days - anyone ever had the misfortune to have to shop in one?

god that would be a big price drop from that dr, it must have been the Knightsbridge local or express store.

actually thinking about it i know that tescos local and express stores have different pricing and there are lots more of those to the big stores. i bet that is "the most Stores" they are talking about?

yes that must be how they do it - £1.89 previously for our cosmopolitan brethren who are forced to use TMs.

But our city beek friends are drowning under a honey surplus so won't be needing to feed sugar - bugger!

a company best avoided

With all those banker salaries they can afford the prices lol lol.

89p / kg in Lidl Tavistock.... cane sugar

Think I will go to Tesco callington... only 4mile round trip opposed to 16, and its beet sugar home grown low carbon footprint!

When I was buying sugar a few weeks ago, I looked carefully at prices. Most if not all supermarkets were selling 1kg at 82p. But some had 2kg at £1.22or £1.29.. Obviously a loss leader .

So to then see a price rise is hardly surprising.

Popped into my local booker today for some stuff for school and had a look at the price of sugar there.

its £20.99 for 25kg at the moment with a notice above the 2 bags they had there saying "british sugar notice max 5 bags per customer for the forseable future"

Asda at 1.59 per 2kg now
