Im reluctant to lift the lid on colonies in the middle of winter.

Would ideally like a solution that works with the roof on.

Thinking of modding the floor to allow a copper pipe to bend up and through the OMF

There’s no issues with removing hive lid in winter

Better to not remove it though isn't it??

But agreed. Mild winter day its not a major issue

To treat Maisemore or Payne s poly nuts use a JG Speedfit pipe insert 32mm it is hard plastic and won't melt. You buy them from Toolstation catalogue page 125 code 87352 just cut down to about 1.5 inch long and insert in the entrance before vaping, you have to use a Stanley knife to take a few shavings off the diameter to fit the Payne s.
To cut a hole in polystyrene to take these inserts just heat a piece of 22mm copper pipe with a blow lamp and push through the poly.

Neat solution.

Going to give that a try.

Just tried heating a bit of a copper pipe and leaving that in situ but it leaves a hole too big for the piece of copper.

Ill grab some of these tomorrow and give it a whirl.

Definitely no melting of the fitting when using the sublimox?

Also, any reason why you went for the 32mm fitting vs some of the smaller ones?

The 32mm is the external width of the collar, but the other end is 22mm external

Gotcha!

Thanks

Hmmm. Not sure this is the best idea.

Just bought one, tried it and its melted and set on fire!

Shame as it was looking good!

Amazing it's a wonder your hives are not going up in smoke , producing temperatures like that inside the hive.

Hmmm. Well, they would have done had I used those flammable sleeves.

I've now got some 15mm ball valves.

Perfect size to fit in the entrances and the ball is 2mm bigger than the sublimox copper pipe so no bees can escape. sorted

Question... what is the best way to sublimate OA using the SUBLIMOX device?

( Great Aunt has bought me one for my Birthday... which is in February... She never can remember, poor dear is nearly 100 and seems to think I am still 12!:winner1st:)

I have been advised various methods.

Just through the entrance after "smoking " bees up into hive

As above but block floor and entrance ( if OMF)

Through a hole drilled into brood box

As above but block floor and entrance ( if OMF)

Lift lid and crown board and vape using a covered eke

As above but block floor and entrance ( if OMF)

Any other method??????

and when and how often?

Yeghes da

and when and how often?

3 hits at 5 day intervals now... once feeding is completed..
or one in midwinter ?

I like the eke idea as could remove the feeders and feeder ekes at same time:winner1st:

FWIW I do 4 hits at 5 day intervals whilst feeding. I use an eke; others do differently. Just remove feeder, vape add back feeder and more feed as required.
Oh and monitor the drops in case you get the occasional mite bomb!
