Happy first day of spring everyone.

as for me i have soooooooo many packets of seeds to play with the urge can not be contained any more, we are off on a massive seed planting sesson and even the girls are going to get the full works this afternoon if its warm enough to take the lids off.

Have to hold off Spring til Sunday...but did plant some white borage seeds yesterday whilst grumbling that I have not a clue where the big pack of blue ones is :(

Saw a Black Redstart near my hives today, so spring has definitely sprung here :hurray:

i love this time of year, with the beekeeping season just about to get underway.Fruit trees starting to bud and the hope of a great spring and summer.Still a bit early for me to start planting seeds yet, that will be next month.

Sowed my tomato seeds yesterday, plus cucumbers and for the first time am going to try aubergines.

Also sowed parsnips and following advice onthe packet sowed 3-5 seeds in the same place at 6" intervals. Station sowing I think it is called. The idea is you thin out to the best one once* they germinate

Must also find the energy to sow some lettuce this week.

*or "if" as is more normal with parsnips.

Careful -- I planted a blue borage hedge along the side of my allotment 10 years ago -- 60 ft by 4 ft ........ never had to plant it again, comes true every year ... as well as on every other plot on the 2 acre site

already got mine in pete 24 trays 700mm x400mm done so far and in the coldframes green house to do and just set sleeper foundations for another free greenhouse to arrive sunday and that will be planted by sun night planted onions toms squashs beans peas cucumbers courgettes lettices spinnach chard etc

Heard the first cuckoo of the season today.

During the sunny spells the willow was buzzing with bees (nearest hive only has 3 feet to fly to get to it:)) the noise was almost "swarm" level. Spring has indeed sprung

Excellent: the trial plot was behind the bull pen (no bull) and did very well so plans for a couple of much larger plots: anything man enough to keep the nettles down on those patches and feed the bees will be just fine. No arable for a few fields at least so hopefully it won't become a total pain.

As for disposing of a swathe of comfrey :mad: grrrr

Hmm Spring huh.

Is anyone else out there regretting starting so many seeds off during that nice warm week we had last month? Without a greenhouse or poly tunnel I'm looking at potting on and bringing them indoors as the cold frame is overflowing. Someone even mentioned that's it's going to get colder again next month with more snow!

So much for global warming!

the term global warming means just that, it doesn't mean UK warming!!

Nah. Most are in the greenhouse. The tiddlers are on the landing in a propagator :)

All my stuff has crowded us out of the conservatory. Plants go out for the day,in at night. Now we have had an offer on the house I'm running around trying to find homes for it all.

Congrats ErichA - fingers crossed all goes smoothly. Think you will find willing friends to take them off you.

My Goldenrain trees are coming on nicely, all 7 of them. Thanks for the seeds. Going to plant out a couple in the woods behind my house and donate the rest to our local community run village shop to sell in the summer - improving the forage. ;)

Sadly my Chinese Bee Trees (the seeds that is) that I bought did not make it but the shoots you sent are all doing well.

Thanks Beeline.....exciting times.
It's living with mother in law while we find somewhere...........

Does anybody want a rooted leaf off this plant.I've got about 20! It's a Night Blooming Cereus.
Here's a snap of the plant in flower. Excuse the chap with the earring. He's there for scale.

I'd love one! But I doubt it would get through customs :(
