Hi Guys
I have a number of buckets of honey that have set astonishingly quickly and is extremely hard.

Should I 'dissolve' the rock hard honey by warming it and mixing it with a runnier honey to make it softer, or will this just seed it and give me a larger batch if rock hard honey??
Cheers
Pete

yes, OSR hney and it will set any honey rock hard

Find some set honey you like and do the following

warm the honey is a warming cabinet for five of six days you may need it up at 45c, and when clear and you have no crystals, let it cool for 6 hours

gentley warm the nice set honey until just mobile, stir it in and stir even 12 hours until just setting and jar up

i have heard you can put a 15lb bucket in a microwave and heat by microwave at aquarter power until melted, BUT I have never done it and would not recommend you do it to melt it that way as i suspect it wouldcause high HMF

No not 50/50 the general rule is something like 5-10% seed honey to your honey.

Just going to say the same.....it says I do not have the right permissions!

yes, 5-10%-I use a 340g jar per 15 lb bucket which is 5%

I use 15lb bucket for spring honey as I find a 30lb buckets of OSR slower to melt and I only get a few , if any OSR Supers because I am an urban beekeeper on the edge of London

If it is your first time doing it, the perhaps two 340g jars per 15lb bucket

Goggle not working?

Try entering bees with osr, and oilseed rape will be obvious among the numerous hits.

For newbee's .
What is HMF, and OSR, Please?

Hydroxy Methyl Furfural
A breakdown product of Fructose, one of the sugars in honey, after heat treatment. There are legal limits in honey you might sell.

Oil Seed Rape
Yellow flowered crop that can give good honey yields in spring. The nectar is relatively high in glucose, which means the honey tends to crystallise faster than other sources.
