Hi all. I need to requeen as early as possible next year. I would like a buckfast as they seem after reading up the most suitable for qualities i need. My question is this. Can you all make suggestions of reputable breeders so i can make the best purchase possible. Cheers

Hivemaker I would suggest as the first port of call.

Thank you everyone.

Ged Marshall or Pete Little would be my choice, not a lot to chose between either.

Depends upon if you want imported or home grown :hairpull:

So we had better mention Bekkies Bees, Maisemores, Paynes beefarms and there are many many more...

Spoiled for choice!

I can not comment on Pete's as not been there yet, but having had a tour of Ged's rearing unit his queens are bred in this country.

My best Queens are from German stock somewhere down the line BF, my other Queen is from polish stock and still ok but not as quiet or prolific as the German stock, all buckies by the way, my last Queen from local bees was pure evil and i cant be more happy that she has now expired, i will say though that the angry colony she produced learned me quite a lot in be management and manipulations, mainly what to do and not what to do regarding weather and lack of flow.
Exmoor Bees is the way forward if you are unsure or a newbie IMO.

Wherever you source your bees you can never guarantee they will be good tempered. I've bought Buckfasts from a few of the above mentioned suppliers and not all are docile. In 2016 I bought two queens from a source in Denmark which I believe supplies at least one reputable UK breeder: one produced slightly tetchy bees, the other produced bees of vile temper so I had to move the colony to a more remote out-apiary.

I now rear my own, which has added a new dimension to my beekeeping . They all go into five frame nucs for mating( not always with five frames). They stay there until they show me what they can do. The poor performers get the chop, and the good ones go into the production hives.

In my early days I bought a couple of queens from HM and was pleased with them.

Ditto - in every way.
