I expect my hive will have excess stores when I check in a couple of weeks.

Can I just pull out the honey bound frames and replace with foundation? I’m concerned that it’ll still be too early for the bees to draw out the foundation. Also, I’m not sure how many frames I should replace (assuming there’s quite a few that are clogged) and whether to place the foundation within the nest or on the outside of it.

Have you dandelions in the offing? Ours are just starting and the bees will draw on the flow.
(Mind you, when I lived in cumbria we were surrounded by fields of sheep so no dandelions)
If not then spin a few frames out and put those back; keep the syrup for feeding later.
I would put foundation at the edge at this time of year unless you are in the lucky position of having eight frames of brood. Somebody here has reported that they have and have supered.

Well then they could try uncapping one frame and putting that next to the brood nest.

Ok, I could do that. What’s the reasoning behind doing it?
