Usually not, but it's always good to confirm it is still accurate before using. I haven't had to adjust mine for ages. Virginia olive oil is good.
 
It doesn't matter what measure you use as long as you know the water level is below the required number. Mine has a long line on the refractometer which is the iffy line. As long as it is above the iffy line I know I am ok!!!

How do you calibrate with virgin olive oil.... what would the reading be?

I check mine periodically
When I first got the refractometer I got a sample of olive oil took a reading and kept some of the oil so I have the same sample to use when I’m checking. In ten years I have never needed to alter it.

I read the first two lines of that link and closed it.. temperature of honey makes no difference unless it is in extremes .

The first two lines don't talk about the temperature of the product (honey). Its just an article about calibration. The fourth line suggests you "Refer to your refractometer operation manual for your model's specific calibration instructions"
