I signed up and gave it a go, it seems very good. Works well on the iphone too.

If you get round to making an app ill buy it.

Well done so far.

:cheers2:

The Beetight website is really very good and I presume will get better as it is refined and the bugs worked out. I don't normally go for this kind of thing but I would recommend it to all beekeepers especially beekeepers like myself who rarely do inspections. Remembering something from a long time ago and wondering which hive it was is subject to good note keeping. No need to go looking for that note or file when it is online. Well done Sphex.

Wow, thanks everyone! I've really been blown away by the response I've had to this. :) The bug reports and suggestions I've had have also been really helpful and have helped me make lots of improvements with more to come! :cheers2:

I now come to a big question: what to charge for, and how much. I'd really welcome some honest opinions. I want to keep it totally free for small scale users, and don't plan to charge a lot for the "pro" version. I'm thinking maybe a tenner a year for more than six hives? Do those numbers seem sensible? Should I change the cut-off point for hive numbers? Should I change the price? Am I misguided in planning to charge for it at all? All the early beta testers will get a free account, so you can be honest! ;)

I think you should fund it by page adverts. Your point to start charging should be the same as the difference between hobby beek and commercial IMO. That point used to be 50 hives but that was a long time ago and may have changed.

just been playing around with the App on my iphone, few thoughts... would it be possible to make all the tick boxes and Fonts bigger so its easier to use with gloves on and also see in daylight?:cheers2:

Just tried it on my Palm 680 and it works well.

Will there be a way of downloading/backing up my information?

Mike.

I'll see what I can do. :)

Yup. You'll be able to download everything to a spreadsheet.

I guess I still need to put more thought into the business model.

I think in the uk its accepted as 40 hives?
Anyone not agree?

Hi, Sphex,
I've signed up and explored 'beetight' and like what I see. Menu led so as not to frustrate an old duffer such as I :).
My mobile phone has scant internet access (slow and fiddly), however ,your system lends itself to enhance my current method (that of dicta-phone recordings of inspections). All I need do is print a copy of your inspection page , laminate and keep as a prompt , this should keep my recordings relevant . Subsequently, stored info can then be uploaded to beetight.
Presently I burn a cd with all recorded files, mark it 2009/2010 eg. Trouble with this; is a rather long winded way of finding the info required :svengo:.

Sphex,

Sent you a PM re an email I received from an ex boss looking for mobile phone software developer.

Thanks again everyone for the really useful feedback.

I've just updated the site to a new version with loads of improvements. I've added export of inspections for spreadsheets. I've changed the way hive problems and treatments are handled. I've added "to-do" lists for hives. There's also printable inspection sheets, loads of bug fixes and other stuff I can't remember now. ;)

Once again, if anyone wants an invite, just ask. We've over 30 beta testers now, but more are welcome. There's bound to still be bugs, so do let me know. Also any suggestions or feature requests. I think we're getting there though. I hope I can open it to the world for public beta soon. :cheers2:

Thanks back in now.

Just tried it on my iphone too, works very quickly, and gives me enough options.

On the website, and this is just me being picky nothing else, on the "what do you want to do" screen, can the menu buttons go from left to right rather than down the page ?

I want people to be picky! That's what beta testing is for. The menu there is actually supposed to go from left to right, so you've just identified a bug. Thanks!

I am enjoying the website, i like a graphically pleasing database, and the options you are adding are needed and with most interlinked become very useful.

When fully functional it will be a very Beekeeper friendly tool, a particular favourite are those options such as "nectar source" on the harvest which auto completes and appears to pull in information from the web.

Do you need a list of the menu buttons which seem to hang when clicked on ?

My only concern, sorry if it has already been mentioned earlier, is security, i would pay for this software but would be nervy about who had access to all the very detailed Apiary info.

I'm glad you like it. :) To answer your concern about privacy: yes, this has been mentioned before, and I understand why people might worry about it. Before it comes out of private beta I will put in place a full privacy policy that emphasises that I will never share your information in any way, whether for advertisers or any other purpose. I have no interest in doing anything with your data other than showing it to you in a way that is easy to manage.

The nectar source data is mostly based on lists I took from Wikipedia and elsewhere, with some additions of my own. As with all of the lists, I welcome suggestions for additions.

The 'Print forms' button on the Apiaries page works well, even if there are two 'Queen spotted' tick boxes! The downloadable spreadsheet looks good as well, very useful for end of year figures. Looking forward to using it.

Mike.
