This morning during the hot weather we had a huge amount of fruit flies come into our house. They covered the windows walls and ceilings. I sprayed fly killer which did not seem to do much, but eventually most died. Tonight I vacuumed and on some window sills there was 1/4 inch of dead flies. We have no rotting fruit or veg near by. The only explanation I can think of is a rotting sugar beet clamp some distance away(2 miles) and the flies have been blown in by the strong wind.

Has anyone else had this problem?

No, and I'm glad we haven't.

I did find a massive leopard slug in the kitchen the other day, about 6 or 7 inches long. No real idea how it got there because the ground around the house is very dry around the house, even overnight.

They are the good guys .. they prey on other slugs ... pretty disgusting thought but they are the only ones allowed to live in my garden - the rest go over the fence (into the roadside verge - not the neighbours !).

:iagree:
They are to be encouraged. I do slug snail patrol when dogs get out for a wee at night and everything goes in the field next door. They are eating my strawberries!!!!!
