Had a look in Dorothy Hodges , The Pollen Loads of Honey Bees, great book. It looks like Copper Beech.

Got the pale pink pollen here at the home apiary. Some.

Meanwhile the predominant pollen at the out apiary is gun metal grey. Loads of it. Assume another poppy?

Do bees ever switch plants when collecting pollen so then perhaps influence the colour?

Research says that honey bees show crop constancy. This means that the individual bee will stick to the source of pollen she is collecting and not go onto other sources until the original source is gone. Crop constancy is one of the reasons honey bees are quite good pollinators for farmers. They are spreading the right kind of pollen between plants of the same species.

Thanks ITLD...could be though no idea where the field is hidden ;).

Our pale pink pollen is from the wild flower Self Heal. There's some in the apiary and I saw a bee laden with the stuff on a plant earlier in the week.
