does exterior paint do an adequate job of preserving hives or should i put preservative on before i paint. Reason im asking is i got a load of osb site protect very cheap to make nucs and meybe a few bbs but dont think preservative will do the job on its own.

I use R**seal clear 5 year wood preserver and then garden shades wood paint.

make sure that it is breathable flexible paint otherwise it will crack over time, also let the paint dry for a few week so no fumes are left in the hive
