Maybe,Th**nes and others sell a similar vapourizer, but more expensive.

Hivemaker do you use these vapourisers?

If you do, what for/how/when/how often?

No i don't,but saying that i did try one out once, worked okay as far as i know, but to much messing around.

'Nough said.

Say no more, thanks.

Potentially hazardous to health and a right faff. dosing every 3 days until drop ceases.

Some italians have been reporting drops of 15k+ (over 13 doses) but that treatment in combination with the heat (6-7 weeks of 30C+) and lack of forage appears to be resulting in lots of colony deaths.

I have been using vaporised OA for years with very good results, last year it was my sole treatment . (one treatment in mid Winter) I think you are confusing OA with the FGMO fogger

Oxalic vaporizers

I understand the best time to use oxalic acid is when no brood is present, as all the mites are on the bees. would using a vaporizer now affect the brood that is pressent. I have youtubed it and all seems to be footage from USA.

ill have to look it up to be sure but i think there are two problems with using OA while theres brood
one is up to 80% of mites are in caped brood and the second one is that its harmful to brood.
like i said id have to look it up again. bear with me ill try and get some time tomoro to look through my fact sheets.

.
Nowadays we have better methods than vaporizer.
It is 20 years old syystem.

Recommend are
formic acid and thymol in late summer
oxalic trickling in winter

all those in Spring if earlier treatments have failed.

Yes, you may trickle after cleansing flight if there are not much brood.
You my kill a small amount of brood and trickle bees.

.
HOW OFTEN OA VAPOUR?

it is made only once. Mites die during next 4 weeks. Biggest fall is on second week.

Repeated treatmenst are needed because no stuff affect under brood cappings.

It is aid that OA vapour is not good to lungs.

Interesting that many Oxalic references (and this vaporiZer) should point to the US of A, where, on another thread (Overwintering Double Brood) Sugarbush believes that Oxalic is not permitted for use on bees ...

Oxsalic is not legal here for use in beehives, some people do use it though, quietly. I have never used it, but if I did, splitting the brood boxes would not have even occurred to me, we would not for api-guard or any other treatment that I could think of and it is vapor so I think it will get where it needs to.

I was under the impression that OA is not officially approved veterinary treatment anywhere as it is financially not worth anyone's time or money to submit it for approval being a cheap product that noone is going to be allowed to get any license fees for producing, and so therefore has to be used by beekeepers as a 'hive cleaner' even though in practice it is an effective mite killer (during broodless periods).

One of our members brought his OA vaporiser to a Gadget Evening. He uses it in December, attached to the battery of his ride on mower, and it is the only varroa control he uses on his 20 colonies. He says it takes him a couple of minutes for each hive.

He says it takes him a couple of minutes for each hive.

Probably a little more than a couple of minutes per hive. Cutting down on the time would require the full PPE (approaching closely to the hive is not recommended for several minutes, without a particle mask) and the cup will need to be cooled and recharged for each one. He is exaggerating a little, methinks.

You can be assured He will not be doing twenty hives in fourty minutes!
