Long ago we made two 35mm PIR drop over Recticel nuc covers for the two Paynes poly nucs. These have proved so useful, even though they rarely get used for their original intention.
To date that have been used as:
1)Demo cover for lectures on hive insulation.
2)Solar wax melter with a cover of two pane of glass separate by a piece of rope to make diy double glazing.
3)high capacity Cool box that really works ( with pir lid ) unlike the cool boxes you buy most of which are a bit pathetic in performance
4)Haybox cooker that can take large pans (pir lid now used as pir base).
it can get quite a bit of use for the latter as there all sorts of recipes that say simmer for hours, everything from stews to beetroot so it can save you money on power.
