I am very kindly being given an old hive to start up with - should this be scorched first? I have read this is recommended but do not want to do this if not necessary.

Oh yes. And just use the boxes. Dump all frames and start with new. Good luck.

very short thread, but....

and on a different note......

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/National-Hive..._Pet_Supplies_Bee_Keeping&hash=item230850e0d1

no disrespect or offence intended if this is a member of the forum selling this, but really.....!?

Why do people do it, and more to the point why do people still think ebay is cheap?
When a well known beekeeping supplier sell the same lot + a bit more as new stuff for ~£115

But then again said well known beekeeping supplier posts on ebay, but same items on ebay higher than direct from them...and they still sell loads on ebay.
