Hi, i've managed to make my first 5 frame national nuc last weekend - in hindsight perhaps i should have made it 6 frame to accommodate a frame feeder.... Anyway, if i use a jam jar over the crownboard is it simply a case of punching holes into the lid and inverting it over the hole in crownboard? if so how many holes and what diameter?

any suggestions gratefully received!

A dozen or so with a hive nail.

If the roof is deep and wide enough you may be able to fit a conventional round 'rapid' feeder (220mm diameter)

Five frames might not be enough - the 6 frame nucs built to the plans on here can accommodate such a feeder if you take a couple of scallops out of the roof battens.

many thanks!

i'll try a rapid feeder, but if the roof wont accommodate it i'll certainly have a crack at the jar feeder. Cheers.
