Will just 5 DN1 frames fit in a National Hive box that you can make from the plans online?

Thanks

Steve

you asked if only 5 dn1 frames fit in the nuc box if you reed the notes on the plans it says 1 frame 35mm 6 frames 210mm + 10mm Regards Andrew

Stephenw,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem to have essentially asked much the same question about nucs and frames in two threads, but seem to have had some difficulty with the answers.

Perhaps you need to be a little more explicit with your questions as you lack detail and so people are having to guess and give generalised answers which confuse the matter.

If you refer to plans, drawings or comments, it is best to cite them in order that we are as well informed as you are and can comment more appropriately. It's not quite like a telephone call with us all necessarily having a unique drawing in front of ourselves.

Try a little harder to help those that you would like to help yourself and the threads will be a lot more meaningful for you.

Nucs typically come in 5 frame (most common) frame (room for extra frame or frame feeder) and 3 frame for queen mating.

Regards,
Ian

Yep, In agreement with Hombre.

A nuc is basically the same layout as a full hive - just that two sides are reduced in length to suit the number of frames needed. Fairly simple, basic and not hard to calculate the new measurements required. Roof, floor, crownboard and frame runners have to fit the box, of course. Apart from that, nothing much different.

Just note that the standard nucs are generally sized to fit two on a full brood box. Following carefully, a set of plans without knowing why they have certain features, is just for the unthinking among us and will not further one's education a great deal.

If you would like a real example to study and compare, look at the old sectional plans for sash windows and those of the cheaper modern versions. You should realise why those craftsmen made them that way in earlier days when sash windows were the bees' knees.

steve try cushman's website for some great plans and sizes, have good think about what you need before building anything though

Thanks very much RAB and beeboybee good help.

Stephen, if you are interested, Armagh & Middletown Beekeeping Association is meeting at 20:00 this evening (in the back bar of Hughes' pub in Middletown) and if I remember correctly one of the members is going to speak on feeding colonies.

Thanks teemore. I was told thats this morning when I was on the phone with a bee inspector but unfortunatly I will be unable to make it. I am starting a preliminary beekeeping course in Febuary and that comes with a years membership of randalstown and district association.
