I have a batch of brand new jars. Last year I used next door's dishwasher and cleaned them all out but is this necessary? Are new jars clean enough to put honey straight in?

I asked a major supplier recently and they advised NOT dishwashing.

Said they were produced, managed and wrapped in a clean environment then opened and lids added in a clean environment.

That provider supplies lidded jars. It may be different for lidless jars.

I dishwash 50 x 454g jars at a time, on a quick wash. It gives them a nice sparkle. I use a crown board as a tray, holding 25 jars.

Our supplier says jars are clean but not sterile.
We wash 500 at a time in industrial dishwasher using a detergent and glass finisher made for the purpose..... 10 cycles of wash and machine is emptied and refilled.

Manufacturers advice is to only use jars once as a different type of glass is used in manufacture of reusable glass containers.

One broken jar in a pallet and we have to reject the lot !
