Hi all
A bit of advance notice - the Chadderton and Moston Local Beekeeping Support Group is holding it's monthly pub meet at the New Moston Club, Parkfield Road North, New Moston on Monday 7th March from 8pm onwards.
The group started in Autumn 2015 when our allotment received a grant to set up a secure apiary area and provide training and hands-on experience of beekeeping.
We already had three beekeepers on site, but when a couple of other plotholders expressed an interest in getting to know a bit more about keeping bees we decided to hold informal friendly meetings at a local pub and to invite everyone we knew who was interested to come and join us.
We have a couple of dozen members on our Facebook Group who are split pretty evenly between those who already have bees and those who are interested in getting their own at some stage. We regularly have a dozen or so attending our face to face meets, and we have already held a Honey Tasting Event and a Hive Building Workshop which proved very popular.
Once the season starts we will be setting up two hives and allowing anyone interested to observe and take part in weekly inspections under the supervision of more experienced beekeepers (with at least the BBKA Basic accreditation).
We are not trying to replace our local BBKA groups, merely providing an alternative way of introducing potential beeks to our hobby, and also providing mentoring to existing but inexperienced beeks.
