Water based so wood can breathe. I use clear cuprinol and it keeps the natural wood look. You say the fish tank stand legs are pushed into soil. With weight of full hive on them they will sink in more. A TBH has to be kept absolutely level. Better to stand on some slabs.

Nice hive. If you have rudimentary woodworking skills why not build your own next time ? Easy done and so much cheaper and far more satisfying

indeed. I have to go into hospital later this year and won't have time to properly care for bees. I have friends who can help with the dogs and cats but not bees. Why? Is this forbidden?
