Hi, I'm looking to buy some more beekeeping books I've got the bee Bible and a few others. But there a bit old fashioned. I wanted some more up to date books on beekeeping methods any suggestions please cheers c.

Second MADASAFISH's nomination - The Pocket Book is practical and very detailed. Have recommended it to many.

Hooper - guide to bees and honey
De Bryun - practical beekeeping

Okay, so they are still fixated with matchsticks and gaping holes in crownboards but the rest of the info is good - bees haven't changed too much in the last few millenia :D

The Beekeeper's Field Guide: A Pocket Guide to the Health and Care of Bees by David Cramp... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beekeepers-Field-Guide-Pocket-paperback/dp/1905862512

Highly recommended..

I notice that the author is based in New Zealand. Is everything in this book appropriate/convertible to the UK? Wellington on North Island is a maritime climate similar to the UK and the bees would be similar but I don't suppose the hives and bee disease (and pest) treatments are the same. Is this difference noticeable in the book - does any of it seem 'not quite right'?

I'm not taking a pop at the author, just trying to find information from somebody who's read the book.

I read it and noticed no difference. Very useful in apiary looking at diseased cells and comparing to photos. Also tables of queen/drone/workers cycle egg to emergence if you forget plus quick guides to swarm control...
He started beekeeping in UK - University of Wales Post Grad Diploma Agriculture. Beekeeping for over 20 years -says my 2011 copy. so started in UK in 1991 - moved to Spain then NZ in 2004 managing 4,000+ hives....

Much better lay out and easier to read than other books.. BUT not advised as a first bee book..

Thank you for all your suggestions folks. My Christmas list this year is all to do with bees . new books and two new national hives . I'm looking forward to going to my first beekeeping meeting also with Ludlow beekeeping association on the 11 th of DEC . the talk is going to be about climate change on beekeeping and I'm sure other subjects as well. It sounds like a night out to me mulled wine and mince pie's to can't wait!. Cheers c .
