Lots of brood

Surely these ratios are only meaningful if the queen is laying at a constant rate? This time of year that doesn't seem like a safe assumption.

Hi there,
You are absolutely right. It is a rough guide to give the beek a headsup that the bees are departing from a perfect brooding laying pattern i.e. three frames of eggs and three frames of capped brood means the queen had gone off lay but is now back laying. It is only a rule of thumb, but you and I know that.

Re RABs reply.
I can understand that you may not accept critical appraisal...we all feel embarrassed when we get things wrong...and along comes someone with sage advice...sometimes it can feel hard to take. However, I have only found the comments and advice from such an encompassing view of beekeeping helpful. He doesn't just offer a solution to a query or question but gives clues and pathways to follow to find the answer yourself. I have learnt so much more by research and actually finding the lightbulb moment. Under such helpful guidance...we all benefit.
If we wanted just answers...we can find them in a book....but whether we actually understand what we read...is another matter.
There are many helpful people on this forum for us new beekeepers...but is up to us to listen, learn and not let personal feelings get in the way.

Ive never seen you give a helpful response yet to snyone, only bitter twisted comments trying to annoy people.
I guess by the sound of it i have achieved something in my first year that you never have, so thankyou for the compliment, i am extremly happy with my bees, 3 hives, 3 nucs overwintered , all queens survived , all queens laying, all bees have good temperaments, all bringing in lots of stores, no Nosema or any other problems, and one years beekeeping? I can see why it must frustrate you oliver?

I have.
Although sometimes delivered with the subtlety of a sledge hammer.
As I said on another thread that descended into whingeing some people here will try and kick you up the backside to make you learn yourself. It sticks in your mind better than giving you an answer where you have to do nothing.

As far as the first year you've done ok. I had nosema, sprays and nasty bees to deal with in my first year. That will be a pleasure that you will have at some point.
Don't fall into the trap that you have 1 year under your belt that has gone well and you know everything cos you don't. pride and fall etc etc.
Stick off topic flags under this if you like but I have seen several other peoples threads cluttered with arguments from you totally off topic.

Good luck with your bee I hope you have no nasty problems as you seem to be trying to alienate yourself from some of the most knowledgeable people on the forum by taking things far too personally.

Sorry i dont agree, maybe its good for all of you, for me its just bitter snide remarks , i can see its great if you get good advice off him, he just post snide comments even on other threads i'm not on having a go for no reason. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder & also seems to think i am someone else that clearly he didnt like. I couldnt really care less, but i will give back what i receive off people.
& sorry all but this thread isnt for or about him. Thanks.

And back to the original thread, lots of brood.

Well I have 1 double std national hive that I would consider to have a lot of brood.....at the moment.
There is currently 8 frames in the top box and 6 in the bottom box, I say a lot at the moment because it is compared to the rest of my hives, other best on 7 frames. It wont be a lot of brood in a months time, just probably the norm by then.
Its a productive hive that is going great guns, first out, last in.

OSR starting to spot flowers locally, couple of weeks and fingers crossed with the weather we may get the start of the honey season locally. :sunning:

Nice to hear yours are doing well too Pete :)

Oh dear!

Not counted, but the ratio will be just the same. D&D, misleading posts, exaggeration, AH responses, etc, all go down as carp which needs showing up, so that new beeks reading these threads - possibly a couple years down the line - are not hoodwinked into believing anything you post.

One poster on this thread claimed their queen layed up 12 deep frames in twelve days (yes, 12 frames of capped brood in the hive!!) and then stopped laying (clearly needed a rest after such an effort). Same poster that told a new beek that the queen stopped laying three weeks before the colony swarmed. Same poster that insisted there would be capped brood in less than three weeks after the colony swarmed. All marvellous carp, of course, which surely needed exposing for the benefit of any new beeks reading
the forum. Nothing changes.

Do you think there'll be any new beeks on here then? I know of at least two you seem to have frightened off in the last couple of weeks, & it looks like others are frightened to post due to your arrogance.

RAB 20 JBG 0? Are you scoring points with your arrogant behaviour now or is that one of your misguided ratios again ?

Your point is well made RAB but for the sake of accuracy the names change:cheers2:
