Some funky looking plants on that advert!

I have had experience with these lights and the halogen predecessors.

They work a treat.

The hot bed really makes a huge difference as well.

All you need then is some form of ventilation as the warm air can become a bit stale.

Make sure you get the right spectrum.

There is a cool blue thats good for vegetative growth and a red one that is for flowering.

If that's actually 1000w it will easily cover 8ft x 2ft.

Id be more inclined to go for 2 x 400w to gain a better spread of light and allow you to get the light significantly closer to the plants thus achieving the same intensity

As suspected its not 1000w, but the 1000w equivalent in LED around 100w.

Will still be a really powerful light but I'd defo go for 2 smaller ones as opposed to 1 big one.

Not the one in the advert..... That is 1000 w in LED.....actually, looking at it again not sure, the advert is really confusing
It says 1000 w and then says actual power 100 w errrrrrrr!

No its a 1000w model.

The actual power is 110w

Trust me, 1000w in LED is not feasible in such a size!

You used to get 250w, 400w, 600w and 1000w Halogen bulbs.

The led ones state the halogen equivalent for comparison purposes.

The actual wattage is 90% less but the lumen output is the same

They look good and come with the blue and red spectrum mixed in one light which makes it easier.

If you are only using them to raise seedlings I would still look for a blue spectrum only light. More power in the spectrum you want.

Looking at the spcifications/details of the device it says:

Coverage Area2.5*2ft for Veg, 2*1.5ft for flower

That means you will need at least three to cover your seedling beds.

As an aside, is lal5000 the seller on epay?

Oh yes, I see now.....it gives 1000w of light by using 100 w of electricity. They have missed out the word equivalent......being pedantic

We had a glass House full of lights at one point, lit up half the valley ! Wasn't cost effective for 10,000 plants at the time, flowering / fruit stage.

T5 strip lights are your best bet for a long thin area of seedlings, a choice of colour spectrum from all blue to blue red mix. Virtually no heat so you can have them real close. Pretty much unbeatable on salad veg etc.
2 doubles would probably be ideal and still under 100watts

Making up your own socket bar from a length of timber or steel as long as required and just buying the bulbs is another option.

These are about £3.60 each, there are other low energy bulbs with full spectrum for about £18 each, and of course you can mount or use as many bulbs as needed.

Hi Hivemaker
Any idea what height above hot bed and spacing would work with these led bulbs. The title says 18W but the technical details below says 8W! Definitely the cheapest option. Would use for vegetative growth.
