I recently purchased a Langstroth hive,( brood box,3 x supers, roof, etc) with assembled frames.I just found out, from my very kind bee mentor, that the frames have been assembled incorrectly. So the frames have 2 square ends on one side and two pointed ends on the opposite side, when they should have a square end and a pointed end on each side.I believe that the problem that this causes is that with two flat ends together it's easy for my girls to stick them together. As its quite a lot of work to correct this is it worth doing.Sorry this is a long thread,I'am a newbee and its something I'am not familiar with.Thanks.

I take it they are Hoffman frames. But i have done this as a newbie mistake. Can't
say it has caused me any trouble.

Same here.
Use them and assemble the new ones correctly.

Well, your mentor passed that test.

When assembling Langstroth frames ensure that the 'V' edge is on the left as you look at the frame the correct way up. If your mentor knew that he/she is not bad at all!

Quite a few of my frames are the same way,no problems to speak of so far.I don't think the bees really care either way.

Dont these have a groove down the middle of the side frame where the foundation slots, making its obvious when they are not the right way around, or are Langstroths different?

No Groove on Langstroth frames :)

I'm not a great lover of Hoffman frames for newbees, only too easy to trap the queen when pushing the frames together. I don't use Langstroth frames but can't you use the plastic spacers with them? They solve any problem of trapping queens on National frames.

Not really going to work is it Enrico.

Most European sourced Langstroth frames don't have any "pointy" edges at all. The wide part of the frames just butt up to each other a bit like Manley frames although the contact area is less.

The pointy bit is one of those things that is supposed to work but in practice doesn't. In my experience propolis builds up just as much as with flat surfaces and bees can just as easily be crushed.

Thanks for all the replies and help.I brought the frames with the hive ready assembled so not my mistake.I'll leave the frames as they are as it looks like it's not a major problem and any further frames I'll assemble myself correctly.Once again thanks for info.
