It's an old manor type house that's been converted to apartments with quite a bit of land. It's a case of getting overall approval and causing least hassle with them.

If the hive/es are face south so entrances are facing towards river and as long ad I put a bamboo screen at side by path should they fly straight out. As the house is north quite a few meters away. As it's on a hill where it's facing they should have enough height assuming they fly towards the river.....

Thanks
Chris

All you can do is create some sort of screen to hide the hives - and lift their flight above head height.

You can't determine which direction they fly....

Chris the bees will fly in any direction for forage. In spring mine fly mainly north where there is a wood. It swings east in early summer. Now they are flying east and west and in a few weeks when the HB is in full flow they will be going south.

When they go north it is interesting seeing them spiral out of the garden then flying off. When they go east for us it is not the best; The garden is small and our path become the flight path. We will be making some modifications next year.

Re gable roofs - a couple of bricks will help stabilise them .

Or something like this sold by one of the poly suppliers -

We need to remember these pictures when Chris posts a thread asking " Why are my bees sat on the landing board with their legs dangling down, just looking into the distance? Could it be varroa? "

Amazing site Chris, quite jealous lol ;)

........and they wouldn't have a little boy bashing them with a blue spade !
