interesting language, Finnish.

An upper entrance solves several beekeeping problems such as clogged entrance, snow over the entrance, and skunk predation.

IT is a soap seller. You may read the same from left or from right.

@ Finman 'Perfect nonsense.'

Go ahead and explain yourself. In what way can a manufactured environment equal the specific adaptations of an animal to its natural habitat?

From my point of view, beekeeping is not like keeping cattle, which are nothing like their non-domestic cousins. Bees are still mainly wild. So the reference point for understanding their biology and needs still traces back to their natural habitat. Understand that, and you understand bee keeping.

I have kept bees 54 years. I get every year from best hives 150 kg honey.

About your mould and moisture problems.... I have met the same problems a while ago.

@ finman '150kg'

Yes, that's about the same as mine. But that is because you remove the honey every two weeks or so, I expect. That doesn't happen in nature. Big honey does not mean your hives are equal to their natural habitat, or that there is nothing more to learn from it.

You, of all people, I expected to say that it is important to keep going back to the source and looking again.

Same here, and I use solid floors, but again, the same as Dani mentions, they are not sealed in the box, so no damp problems at all.

Better not bugger the lot up by cladding the whole thing in celotex then........................

No need now
They are all poly :)
It's been raining today so I have stood in stan's workshop with my hands in my pockets( boss, you see ;) ) while he made me a couple of nuc floors with underneath entrances on the long side so I can have them warm way :)
Not a sheet of Celotex in sight

The only issue i could see with that (although not such a big deal with UFE's) is that a lot more of the first frame would get abandoned than you'd see with cold way.

Bees tend to leave the area next to the entrance untouched - you have a whole frame there, not just the ends, they may just shy away from it - that's why I prefer cold way

Ah...I see what you mean
Doesn't happen in my poly hives though. They brood right up to the wall
Anyway....I shall see.....One day my bees will thank me when I stop fiddling with them

All this condensation crap is just that.
I have wooden hives with thick cosies and solid floors, and OMF ones. And a Poly hive with OMF,

No condensation problems despite living at 170 meters at the edge of the |Peak District and in a local frost pocket.##

I ignore what anyone says living in Southern England near sealevel or near the sea as their conditions are near tropical in winter compared to ours.

And posters who ignore the fact that local conditions make huge differences should know better.

None of the above is rocket science but some of the above posters should know better than spout crap.

I despair! :nono:

## major condensation with no cosies.
