Hi Levitt53, Thanks for that tip. I actually like the lugs, never understood one box just resting on the other! I might change my mind at some point though women's prerogative.
So do I. It helps stop things shifting when moving hives to OSR/Borage/heather/home again.
A couple of minutes with a Stanley knife is all it takes to cut a few recesses in your supers to fit the floor; if you wish to go that way.
As Erica says, if you have standard National supers they will sit on the floors. So, at least two options for nadiring with a super.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Leaveas me with lots of options should I need them.

I cannot do that, because I am on Paynes poly hives.

From cannot to pointing out the obvious. Make up yer mind.
I was trying to be helpful as no-one else had pointed out "the obvious".

Hi Hebeegeebee, can you explain what you mean by the bit in brackets?

The implication that they will consume markedly more stores. This may or may not be the case, I think it depends on the colony tbh. I've had colonies in insulated wood, non insulated wood, poly and a mixture and don't see the trend. Probably the best year for stores consumption was 2010-2011, minus double figures and plenty of snow and they all went through with no insulation. Each had a super over them that was untouched.

In my seven years as a beek I have had no need to nadir. But now with your helpful advice I can if the need arises. Thank you.

This might make you laugh Beeno but that is the first time I realised you were a woman. Never noticed the symbol on the side.
E

Thanks for pointing the symbol out to me never noticed either and often got it wrong. Wish you hadn't as it has spoilt my own guessing game. X

I’m all for women’s prerogative, female too. I found it nearly impossible to separate the floor from the brood box the first time I tried. Maybe you’ll have more success.

Put your foot on the floor. Mine is a size 4.
