A bit like "overhead welding"!. They gather it from trees and carry it in pollen baskets. Then they put that resin and wax pieces into cracks.
You may see that resin drills often along the hive Wall. At least the warm resin can drill into cracks. If the crack is above the bees, they can only cover it along surface. Inner cover board is such.
