There are far too many more important things to worry about - like whether to use matchsticks or cocktail sticks to ventilate my hives.

The 1888-1901 British Bee journal and Bee advisors has much correspondance on ventilation of hives by matchsticks.

The debate then was not matchticks versus cocktail sticks ( bet you live in a posh house if you have cocktail sticks )but whether replacing the matchstick with a copper ha'penny piece would as copper was a biocide be beneficial to the health of the Bees..... probabley not taken up as all beekeepers that i know seem to be tight old gits ,who would not give a ha'penny to anyone let alone leave one under a hive crown board
