I get stung enough by my bees :ack2:. I really don't like it so it makes me quite careful in other areas of my life.:willy_nilly:

Data Protection Act

Bearing in mind the original poster doesn't seem to have heard of yourselves before you emailed him I'm wondering how you actually got his email address in the first place. Looks like you may not be cognisant of the Data Protection Act which certainly rings alarm bells for me.
Thanks for the comment, nothing sinister here mate, i got the original poster's email address from a website that he was advertising to sell honey on (I have only approached him to buy what he was selling). I am a FE teacher and A1 assessor so I have to respect the data protection act on a daily basis and would definitely adhere to the act in my personal/business life as I do in my career life. Warm Regards

We are a trusting lot us beekeepers :)

i wonder if its because so many people try to scam us?? hope i don't fall into any of the traps one day, that will end up making me so untrusting, its good to be cautious though i suppose!

Eric

...two minds etc. I also only trust emails from someone with minimum Btigadier General rank in the Nigerian armed services (or a close relative thereof)

I can also provide 'London Honey' in 50 gallon drums for cash

getting stung is one of the joys of beekeeping!! (laugh out loud)

or better yet trying to develop our skill to not get stung, I am always amazed at my uncle who does not wear any protective clothing at all and very rarely gets stung, you should see him in action, amazing!!! (wish i was that brave.....in time maybe)

General advice re scams via email is NOT to reply. The logic of this is that replying tells them that this is a live email address - and a live address is more valuable to sell onto the other scammers.
I rather think the same advice re calling any phone numbers back.

i'll second that! (makes a lot of sense)

Success with Honey Helpers

Having just joined the forum, I noticed this thread on Honey helpers. I have just dealt with Honey Helpers, who advertised in the Essex Beekeeper. After emails to discuss what I had to sell and their offer prices, I arranged for Honey Helpers to come to my home last week. Curtis arrived on time, was polite and professional; we discussed my various offerings and the flora they were from. The honey was tested for water content; the result was that Honey Helpers took 19 tubs and paid, in cash, a good price for my bulk honey. So much easier, when you have a good year like this year, to sell in this way, if you haven't developed the outlets. My only criticism was the time some emails took to be answered; I expect companies to reply next day, and sometimes replies were a but slow. I hope this helps the doubters; in my experience so far, they can be trusted and I would sell to them again.

Just back from dropping some of my excess honey off to Curtis at Honey Helpers.
I found him to be a very polite and pleasant chap who I felt was entirely trustworthy and we carried out the transaction with no problems at all.
He wanted to know a little about the source of my honey and checked the water content to be well below 20%.
Paid in cash and I think we both came away happy with the deal.

I will deal with him again if I get a excess this year.

Hi Pete

If I was in you I would also be very interested I am sure but I really do not think it is fair practise for me to discuss the price I agreed on a forum.
All I can say is I was happy and he was happy.
Send him a email see what he offers is all I can say.

Jeff

Fair play Jeff, thanks.
I think I will bank my surplus from last year just in case we have a bad year. Might also do a couple of one off markets and sell some through.

Rightly or wrongly I have suspicions when I see a Hotmail, Yahoo email or similar used. It doesn't inspire confidence that the business will be around for long....or maybe I am just a little too cautious ?
S

That's me under suspicion then.

That's me under suspicion then.

Not necessarily but would you have more trust in a Hotmail account or one that reflects the business ?
As I said rightly or wrongly I have less faith in a business that uses a Gmail or Hotmail account.
