Think it's down to how careful I am not to squash them. I actually haven't been stung since I re-took up beekeeping with a cutout from my moms bathroom ceiling last August.
Anyone want to take a guess at when I will be stung properly? (have had something through the clothes I think but no sting pumping venom).
My strongest hive is quite feisty and normally at least one bee tries to sting me but I shake them off my hands or smoke them.

hahaha:yeahthat.
I suppose I have been stung then, one way or another.

This year - I think I've only been stung when I've squashed them - and it's been between by hive tool and my thumb mainly. Have taken more care after the second one and even taken to putting the hive tool down sometimes.

Got stung this spring walking past the hives 20 metres away minding my own business. On the eyelid too - ouch. I had a fairly major reaction then but further stings have been nowhere near as bad and a couple about a month ago I hardly noticed. Some years lucky, just not this year!

I am at the end if my second year and have never been stung!

Had my second real sting of the year this afternoon...all I was doing was refilling a Miller feeder so didn't bother with wellies and got stung through a sock

and got stung through a sock

be mindful NOT to tread on Estate Agents... ( especially if the b*****ds are members of the Ombudsman Property RICS mob!)

£6000 of very sore sting!

Estate Agent Law needs changing..... appols BUT BKF not really the place to vent my spleen... just hate being had over big time!!!

how are the sunflowers?

Ahhh, sadly all dead now looking like withered trifids with their dried heads hanging down.

Didn't really have the best of weather for them again this year, still it's in the past now and the ivy is on to top up winter stores and raise the winter bees.

Total sting tally from the one evil hive is close to 80 over 5 or 6 attempts

Nothing all year, then shook out DLQ, 10 at once, then very occasional sting since then. Mostly very nicely behaved bees, despite my fumblings.

I had not been stung for two years, until last week after eating smoked mackerel and not washing my hands before inspecting the hive. Then stung twice on the hand. As an ex fisherman i thought this was strange. Will wash the hands before the next inspection. Ianf.

Perhaps sometimes it is connected to what you do with bees? I do a fair bit of........

Thanks Chris, serves just as well for a desktop background as a field of sunflowers, with the added bonus of trying to work out what the scenario...

Ditto ivy here - and also seeing more Michaelmas daisies than ever before albeit I am in a suburban environment
!

Stung at last!!

Still almost not a proper sting but I was excited none the less. I was chased away from a hive (just watching them bringing in deep red, yellow and black pollen) all the way too the house and in.
I let the bee stew in the living room for five mins then went back in and let her out of the window. I then left the house and headed to my car. As I was about to leave I felt a pain in my leg and thought it was a thorn. When I looked at it it was a sting.
Really stealthy work there!
Anyway, not much more swelling than a mosquito bite so really happy I'm not showing any allergic reactions as I feared.
Am still nervous about being stung on the hands for some reason. Guess its because it has been so many years and they swell up so badly.
