Hi guys,

i think i have a hive thats queenless, im going to put a test frame in to confirm.

If the hive is queenless then from what ive read they will begin to make queencells.

If they do make queencells, then obviously theres a possibilty that they will raise a virgin queen.

my dilema is should i just let them get on with it and raise a queen, hope she mates and begins laying before the end of the season or should i just buy in a new queen??

any have any idea how long it would take from raising a new queen to it becoming a mated queen and laying well?? (i know its a how longs a piece of string question but just looking at a rough time scale)

thanx

4 weeks is a good time from hatching. I have one hive with a virgin queen in it. Its been 2 weeks now since she hatched. I will leave it another 2 weeks before i look in. 2 weeks from mating would be a good time to look in

do u still think i have time to let them raise a new queen and push up the numbers in a national brood box so they have the best chance to survive the winter?
