Glue guns

Does anyone out there use those electric glue guns when they put together their boxes?

I have used wood glue to assist the nails in the past, but I wondered if the heat would improve the joint any?

Any input as ever gratefully received.

They are not really appropriate to woodworking like that.

IIRC you can get wood glue for glue guns but use either the standard exterior pva type or an expanding gap filler are best. Leave the glue gun for sticking sequins on the girls wedding dress's.

Yes, they are excellent for gluing correx boxes and fitting the mesh.

Agree this is very good glue. I have asked Paul who makes my hives to send a bag of fine dust with my next lot as when mixed at the right consistency fills all those brad holes and blends in.

Glue guns make great bodging tools, wouldn't be without one. Not for assembling new hive boxes though, flame it and the glue strength disappears.

Hot glue guns are not really suitable for glueing boxes together etc as the glue cools to quickly and you can't close the joint properly they are good for temporary small joints were you are only using a small dab of glue.
The PVA or poly glues are the best.

If weather is very moist, normal glue will not harden. Then polyurethane works because it hardens with water.
But that glue is not friendly to finger skin.

Is that what you use one for? Don't have the use for that. Must learn to sew...
