Does anyone else struggle to remove the lids from Thornes honey buckets? I’ve broken fingernails and cursed lots this morning and still haven’t managed to open it. Got another stall next week and really need to transfer the honey into a bucket with tap today! 😖

They are good stout buckets and fit in the allotted space nicely, but the lids are so tight

Is that not the point? The kids can't get in then.

Yes....last year I posted the same. Heat them slightly with a hair dryer, becomes much easier

Are you talking about the rectangular ones with a honey gate ?

I've got a couple - they are really good but lid removal should come with an even sterner warning that the sticker that comes with them when they are new ... words to the effect 'Lids can be hard to remove' is a bit like where it says in the Haynes Motor manual ..'Undo nut and remove half-shaft'.. It fails to say ' ...after two hours with a 10lb slide hammer, strapping the car to the nearest wall and applying numerous hammer blows whilst holding an oxyactetylene torch to the offending item'.

Don't know about Thornes buckets but I've struggled many times with the lid of my plastic settling tank. It's gradually getting easier with use but I still can't get the lid off without a selection of tools to use in the attempt.
It doesn't have one of those cut away bits that allows you to get in to lever up the lid.

It's a sign of age, sadly. There once was a time when you'd rip them off with no thought, nowadays it's an achievement :D.
Flip the handle to the front of the bucket and hold it. Grip the lid and pull up while pushing down on the handle.

No, just the ordinary round buckets, no tap. I got the lid off eventually but not with out worrying that I might spill the honey.

I bought a bucket with gate and strainers and the tool to open the bucket was included. I have never used it as I could not get the lid to fit on in the first place!

Strange that you should say that, I have 2 of those buckets from different companies and the lids fit the buckets of the opposite companies.

I had the same problem, wasn't a supplier I had bought from before either. Also had a bee jacket from them with the same order, the veil failled within weeks. Needless to say I haven't bought from them since. They have however changed hands since then.
