Dad found out about his MBE by a friend on the street, it was in the paper before he was informed formally! Maybe different levels for different awards. I think this is great for Geoffrey and great for Beekeeping but this is not the forums finest hour :( Well done that man. not worthy

Must have been someone who nominated your old man or he didn't get the letter, but they don't agree the list until people have accepted them. It is to avoid embarrassing refusals.
 
definately on the day of announcement (31st Dec) but guess a letter failed to through is a realistic explanation but was the first Dad heard about it though 20 to 25 years ago now so suspect things have changed also. I do think it is great Beekeeping is being recognised. :party:

Sniping, politics, back-stabbing and jealousies have no place on this thread.

The more I have found out about Mr Hopkinson the more I am impressed, he has obviously got on with beekeeping and education therein in a quiet and professional manner without feeling the need to court publicity.



Geoff is a very nice guy, patient, knowledgeable and a gentleman, you would be hard put to find a better man.
