I no longer buy Lurpak and have found West country butter instead. Price of Lurpak has come down so buy British has already started! Do tell what sugar I should buy to support Britain.

It would be surprising to be different.. I more and more remember of the dilemma during voting in Roman Senat in movie " History of the world 1".. :leaving:

Maybe to be " slight comforting" to You, over here is much much much and much worse.... On my misfortune.. :banghead:

whilst our home grown sugarbeet industry goes down the pan.

Hardly to the pan, they reckon 2/3rds of UK sugar sold is from sugar beet. It would have been more but British sugar screwed farmers uup north growing sugar beet when they (British sugar) closed their processing plant in York 10 years ago. Nearest one is East Anglia .... a bloody long way to take a tractor and trailer (or wagon) full of sugar beet....hence it's not grown up here any more.
Light is on the horizon though as planning application for a new state of the art factory has recently been submitted to Harrogate council by Al Khaleej International - part of Al Khaleej Sugar of Dubai!!!!!

Yes, but now with some supermarkets 'patriotrically' withdrawing beet sugar from their shelves and boasting they only stock T&L cane sugar, how long with that last

Morrison's Silver Spoon Granulated Sugar 2kg for £1.00 was 88p a few weeks ago.

As I understand the situation, the widely reported neonic ban that Gove is keen on will be a blow to the UK sugar beet industry.
Doesn't JezD work at a sugar beet processing plant? He may have a more informed view.
