Was standing about 8 meters away from my hives without any bee suit on thinking I was OK. Next thing I felt and heard was a buzzing sound at back of my ear. I naturally slapped my ear to get rid of what was there but the buzzing was still there. It was a bee stuck to the top back of my ear because it had stung me :(

I walked up to the house while trying to feel for a sting at back of ear. Turns out it was at top of my ear because when I got to the house, my good lady picked the sting out. This was about 2 or 3 mins after I was stung. It didn't feel to bad until the sting was removed then this big sharp pain hit me like a ton of bricks.

When the pain was going away I was getting a dull pain in my heart for a min. This had me worried when happening but soon disappeared and forgot about. I'm now wondering, is this common or is it a sign of something.

Fast forward 30 hours and my ear is still red, warm to touch and is very swollen. I'm curious as to when this will dissapear. My friends and family have been having a right good laugh at the size of my ear lol but here's hoping it won't be for to much longer because I'm starting to get paranoid when out when people are looking at me lol

Yes it is a sign that its not only humans that can be demon possesed! seriously though their venom is not insignificant, and I also imagine that your anxiety affected your ticker too I had it the first few stingles. always have your phone on you being in an apiary can swallow lots of time up, and you might need to order a pizza!

I find that it takes 24 hours for the sting to reach is full effect, then 48 hours for it to go down. If it's really uncomfortable take an antihistamine (the over the the counter ones are fine and only cost just over a £) and apply an ice pack.

The swelling from a sting is normal.

The bees always wait until I think it's safe to take my suit off before having a go at me too, sneaky little blighters.

If you become a beekeeper, you can try your best to prevent it but you've got to expect a few stings. Swelling is normal and reactions may lesson over time. Unless you have an anaphylactic reaction then nothing to worry about.

outstanding post. Your initiation is complete. I used to swell like a pig for 2 days and then take 3 days to go away, but as one of the commentators said get over the counter antihistamines and pop one when you get a sting. The other day I was beekeeping and felt a sting at the very top of my inside thigh (dont get excited now) and I forgot all about it and a day later there was no sign of anything - I hope my resistance is building.
Try not to swot the bees when they fly around you, (easily said of course) but by swotting them with your hand you are almost guaranteeing a sting. It puts them into kamakazi mode! I have been told a good rub of cats pee is better than any antihistamine! - just cant catch the cats doing it!
Go néirí leat.

A bag of frozen pees on your ear to get the swelling down.

I get a localised sharp pain akin to a clumsy injection this fades over about ten minutes, sometimes less. Depending where the sting is a small lump develops and it itches around the site. A hot compress seems to accelerate the easing of itching and reduction of the lump. The itch and lump take a day or two to go away.
I got a sting while driving away from the association apiary yesterday. As I was going to another hive I kept my beesuit on and an unnoticed bee crawled down my arm and popped a sting into my wrist. Little sod!

After about 55 stings a year (YTD 2014 51!), I am nearly immune. Stings on ear nose and arms have minimal effects.. But 10 stings on small and ring finger on Friday caused them to swell and remain swollen for three hours. (I was holding a fallen comb and reattaching it so could not remove the stings until job done).

On warm days, T shirt , shorts and no veil. Last Tuesday my (was grumpy , requeened, now better.. err grumpy again ) hive decided that T shirts were not acceptable and stung me in the armpit... , Jacket again.

Last two stings I got were to neck but within a minute of getting them I rubbed the area with Apple cider vinegar(the real acv for poultry etc.)immediate relief, the burning stopped,no swelling and no itch the following day.
I don't usually react too badly anyway

I always (well nearly) take my wedding ring off just in case I get stung on that finger.

Do others do the same?

No,
would wait to get stung there or I'd be for it if I got home with no ring!

Yes, always.

I got a sting on the head a few weeks ago. Face looked a bit funny but still went out to the pub that evening. Looked terrible the next morning after having slept on it.

I got stung on the forehead, swelled up and slowly travelled down over the course of the next couple of days. Went from looking decidedly Klingon to a vampire from Buffy. Great fun! Wouldn't have missed it for worlds...

No, because any stings I get on my hands don't tend to swell up till the next day.

Lol. Just put min on again after 24 hr without it. She seems not to have noticed its absence.

34 years on I guess I might not miss hers either.

Must concur Jimy D - Vet offered wee dish to test cat pee not a hope in hell of getting it - have to stay with antihist ...

I looked like Gilberdyke John's avatar today IN A JACKET SUIT. Gaping open at the back, stings in the small of the back, bees under my shirt stinging me up my back etc. Most unpleaseant.
