One might think that up north it is harsh, but actually in summer it is a bee paradise. Low bee density up there means healthy bees. Forage is continuous, interrupted only by some heavy flows.

While you are sparring against each other, there is a serious point here: Finman has a much better environment and has adapted his beekeeping management to take advantage of it. I think he deserves recognition for that. I also think we should be seeking to emulate him rather than deriding him all the time. We may not have his vast open spaces, but, I am sure we could work with councils, farmers, etc to improve the forage for bees so we don't get these stop-start-stop nectar flows

.
I have good environment, because I have arranged it so. Environment has not come to me. I live 3 miles away from capital city centre. And I have lived there 40 years.

Some think that it is fun, when i have a car and I buy gasoline into the car.
But I have learned that it is so called famous English intellectual poking. When we talk about the Welsh, forget that term 'intellectual'. ...

Well, it was you who made the comparison between the value of jars of honey and how much petrol you could buy for it..

When the wind be from the East... tis no good for Man nor beast!

... so tut nowt twill be bitin iday!

I have striven to get local councils to not spray or cut verges to allow nature to manage itself... now I read that 20% more ( whatever that statistic may mean) of gardens are being paved over, and more farmland ( here in the South West) is to be used for "Solar" farms....... and roundabouts in Plymouth that had once been planted up with "wildflower mix" are to be concreted over and painted with an environmentally sustainable green paint!
( a new Tory MP got elected .. so the cost of roundabout management is high on the new austerity agenda)

I sometime wish I had stayed in Sweden!

SKOAL not worthy

Round here almost all large roundabouts are planted, almost all public empty spaces are planted, and we encourage people to do the same.. It's all been driven by a lady who started "Biddulph in Bloom" in 1991..

(we used to be a derelict mining town and now win Britain in Bloom --- shows what can be done with action and no whingeing :)

Janners must have found a load of green paint when clearing out one of the old Devonport Docks derelict sheds..... now being cleared for social housing... or is it now affordable second homes for the privileged few?
Probably originally made to paint bottoms of battleships ( now no more!)... benefit is that it will have TBT in it so will stop moss from growing!

Also litter bins are going to be removed from the Barbican as it encourages tourists to put half eaten pasties in them, which encourages seagulls to raid the bins for scraps!
( What is a seagull... I thought it was a small marine outboard motor!)

Despair... wish there showers would cease so that I can get on with the 7 day inspections that are now a week overdue.

Yeghes da

Planted roundabouts in Norwich are mostly sponsored by local companys..

Showers?
I went to collect a bar of sealed cells this afternoon to transfer to the incubator and, on the way back from the apiary, it hailed!
Hail in May! (I'm glad I was in the car)
