What is a "do nothing guy?"

Any beekeeper who does not conform to Finnie's singular view of how beekeeping should be done and thinks for themselves ... particularly if they have less than four hives and have been beekeeping for less than 10 years ... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

Finman - a legend ... in his own mind.

I think any beekeeper who can achieve yields of over 300lbs in a hive is well worth listening to. Particular given that Finman is working beyond the Northern limits of honey bees natural distribution. I suspect he means that he works hard at making sure his bees are in an optimal state to take advantage when a flow does come along. And a do nothing does not.

Indeed.
Starving after a day of rain and four boxes on each hive at end of month..

You mean self confidence.

Pargyle, you was a legend after 1/2 year experience. I remember.
I admire you.

Yeh...the heady days of being a ONE HIVE OWNER ... now graduated to a DO NOTHING GUY ... well ... I'm going to have FOUR hives very shortly so you'll have to find another insult as I'm clearly doing SOMETHING !not worthynot worthy

Some beekeepers are happy with a relatively small number of colonies and taking a relaxed approach as it is a relatively small part of their lives. This is a hobbyist attitude. Nothing wrong with that.

Other beekeepers take a proactive approach and take up any advantage and opportunity they can to increase yields. Such as taking more honey, travelling to finding the best foraging spots etc. This is a more business like attitude to beekeeping. Nothing wrong with that either. It is really that simple so please get over it and stop baiting. This is Finmans thread afterall.

Problem there is that some people cant understand why anybody would want to do it for reasons other than to sell the honey.

That is odd, yes. Some extract honey and feed it back to the hive. That is catch and release.

Some are wiser. They catch honey yield to supers in upstairs, and then they put honey down that bees lift it up again. That is honey recycling method.

They could donate honey to poor families than wash honey from combs in next spring.

Reseach 2014:
According to the study, 33% of households endure below-par living standards – defined as going without three or more "basic necessities of life", such as being able to adequately feed and clothe themselves and their children, and to heat and insure their homes.

Hear hear!

Ah, I see so noone is allowed to try and 'bait' this thread as has happened when the boot is on the other foot but then again I reckon that this post is the bait and he's just waiting for the float to dip.
If he doesn't want to be challenged (or set up a bait to see who bites) he wouldn't post.
But I'm sure he's grown up enough to fight his own virtual beekeeping battles without recourse to an army of sycophants to protect him

There's nothing sycophantic about taking a balanced view.

Finman,
I realy would like to see pictures of your bees, cottage and pastures around you.

Thanks to you and bluebee, i use heating pad and it makes a difference!

It is the first unsolicited post regarding the condition of his bees that I can remember him making.. and 20 hives......somewhat different to previous hints of 200 or just not answering at all when asked.

He hasnt seen any varroa lately...Thats understandable when he always says he "doesnt mite count...waster of time..gains nothing"
