EU honey import regulations change

I somehow seem to have missed this up until now.

Who is the "competent authority" in the UK, I wonder? And how will it be policed? It seems like there's a reasonable possibility of it making no difference whatsoever, but let's say that it is significantly effective. What happens then? Will honey prices rise significantly in the EU due to lack of of "real" honey to replace the fakes? And will lots of the fake stuff get dumped elsewhere?

Quite. But perhaps easy to lose the EU's "competent" accreditation if it turns out suppliers from your country have been exporting fake honey.

The obvious 'competent authority' for this here is the food standards agency.

I suspect with cutbacks the different departments will be fighting to off load the responsibility to each other

You have also missed the notice that Argyle Enterprises are the sole appointed UK competent authority ... just send me a £50 note in a brown envelope and by return they will send you a certificate of legitimacy that certifies that your bees are British born and bred and that any honey they produce is the product of their sole endeavour and no foreign bees were allowed to participate in the production.
