I'd second that - He's usually on the money and has helped me a number of times ... value his advices - put up with his bedside manner - the advice is worth it !
Probably fair to say his advice is good but he doesn't brook fools gladly🤔

No need to put up with anything. Thankfully, excellent, experienced advice is commonplace on this forum, from many sources.

Some people might consider it 'acceptable' to not brook foolish behaviour from other experienced beekeepers. (Although I'm sure even these 'experts' make mistakes at times.)

But when dismissing the efforts of beginners, it just discourages them from asking questions and learning from their mistakes.

I agree with Little_bees.
Btw- I notice that Pargyle said that the genetics of winter bees are different from summer bees. I don't believe that this is true. I think it is just the physiology that is different. The queen and the workers have the same genotype. The phenotypes are very different.

I think that beginners or those of a sensitive nature should keep their postinngs in the beginners section where you would expect to be treated gently ...If you want to play in the main section of the forum expect to be challenged ... I'm not saying anyone should put up with abuse or derogatory comments but I have no issue with robust debate ... style is in the eyes of the beholder I'm afraid. There have been members in the past who were rude and arrogant ... I don;t see any of that in any current members.

OK ... I can live with that ... whether it's the genetics or the physiology doesn't make a lot of dfference - the fact is that wnter bees are bred to live through winter and it is now evident that they are different to their summer sisters. I think there is more research to be done in this area ~ there is so much that we don't know about honey bees.

I have just finished this thread. It started with a question which was answered by others. I found the advice offered to be informative and ranging in its usefulness to me as a 10-year beek. The thread then trailed off into a vague comment of, to me, of largely off-topic argument and opinion.
And the point I want to make? Please keep to topic.
I wonder how many members give up on the seemingly large number of similarly structured threads that appear and how many stop logging in?

Its one of the characteristics of this forum that threads do wander a bit from the original post... I quite like it ...judging by the number of members on line at any time of the day and night I'm not sure that it puts that many people off...but I accept that it's not to everyone's taste...such is life ?

Hi Alan.
I don’t think it puts many people off at all.
Keeping everything bang on topic would turn this forum into an encyclopaedia. While some/many members may not agree with the lax moderation here I think all you have to do is go look at the BBKA version to see how keeping on topic and strict moderation works
I hope you continue to enjoy it here. This forum is a mine of information, innovation and chat making it the best of it’s kind in the world

No change there then ?

But are they not the ones who benefit most from your great age and wisdom ?

And from your bright ego...which never hibernate or rest, or do not even go under horizont . I remember those days when you tried me to be banned every week.

And your way to make age rasism for reason that I born as I have born.

I remember when you was at your best when you had your first 6 frame swarm. Since then you did not need any advice in beekeeping.

It is very unpleasant to visit on this forum and meet you and your mite resistant bees.

Oh Finnie
I thought that was all water under the bridge? That was years ago.
We’ve all made fools of ourselves here.

No one on any of the threads involved has made a comment that would put them in the "fool" category.

Or would you disagree? If so please be specific.
Have you never heard the common phrase before? Either you led a sheltered life or your just prodding for a reaction

Your phrase clearly implies that the people being criticised on this thread were fools. If you didn't mean that, fine, but probably best to keep your common phrases for less "involved" discussions.

What were those "hibernate", "old"and "wise" greetings, when I know what kind of talent pargyle is. I take those as old insults what I have met here years.

I know nothing about water and bridge.
