I, too, had some dodgy teachers. I remember being told at school that thunder was the sound of the clouds crashing back together after the lightning had gone through them. I know a few people who still think that's the truth!
But, I also had some really good teachers who enthused me to go out and find things out for myself.
I guess it's the same in any profession or walk of life.

The Apprentices - how did you learn to make that Brother Adam feeder? I hope someone else didn't work it out for you then write it down in the form of a plan! :)
I, too, often prefer to be out in my fields working with my hands, but it doesn't mean I don't accaisionally ponder the deeper meaning behind things and maybe pick up a book and find out what someone else thinks about it.

"who make up things like global warming" - just for one ghastly acid-flash moment imagine that statement were correct :biggrinjester: - it makes not a jot or tittle difference if the globe is warming, cooling, or doing a rhumba, there are too many people, doing "too much stuff", so the remedies which we need to embrace with alacrity are pretty much the same as we are polluting the bejaysus out of our planet, and rapidly running it out of precious resources.........

I hear ya bros, when its gone its gone, it will eventually come to peak and then?

The boffins and thinkers are telling us that a single barrel of crude oil holds the equivalent energy to that of twelve grown up's working manually for a year, if this is true which I don't doubt for one minuite and there is no replacement then, Euston the predominantly lazy carbon unit are really going to have a problem.

The name of the feeder points to the inventor of the said item, what you have to remember is, that its all been done before and will be done again in many other different ways to an end product.

I got the idea of making the feeder off a picture I found and the plans are the sizes I got from Warre who made the system he used, internet mainly the today book upon life.

Again its in my signature, better to show me than to tell me from a book, this way the hand to eye coordination is active and creates creativity and awakens the soul.

A traight which the 30 somethings of this world have not been doing in schools because the planners know its not going to be needed as the wealth and debt being used to control the whole, is not going to be needed by that society in their planned future of office workers and managers.

You see somewhere and somehow someone has to be doing it all manually and the simple fact is that the fat controllers are using this new technology to mask what it really going on.

The electronic batton has nearly achieved its next goal, in many inner city schools the world over the little minds don't even know where their food actually comes from.

I'm sure you see some kind of picture emmerging, the one that surrounds you as we banter.

You don't half talk a lot and philosophise for someone who advocates stopping talking and philosophising:)

I agree about the lack of practical skills around today. I don't recall being taught much of practical value at school. We did metalwork and woodwork but we were taught by two very disinterested teachers who clearly thought that no one would ever go on to a career using what they were teaching. I guess they were right.
On the bright side, the exact opposite is true of my daughter's schooling. She's learning gardening and animal husbandry at primary school!

Yes I can talk paint dry madame, but my wares also speak for themselves, what I share with the whole is exactly what I have shown everyone, nothing more or less and what one can visual in solid works happening right now.

On the part of the slack teachers not caring, this I noticed in my own now grown childrens schooling but not my own.

What I have allotted is this, the current system is crash and burn where as it was boom and bust before.

If you ever get the time to study the UN's Agenda 21 report in there is what is happening today by and large.

This course of action follows exactly what we are witnessing many years after its conception, a nation fit for the new society with no manufacturing left and no reason to train the populous for that coming manufactured drought nonetheless.

To paraphase what I just said.

You don't have to listen to what they are telling you.

Or do what they or I and others say or suggest you must.

But if your observant enough you can see what and who they are and what is happening.

...On the bright side, the exact opposite is true of my daughter's schooling. She's learning gardening and animal husbandry at primary school!...

I'm very pleased to hear it. Skills which are hopefully applicable to real life, and arguably more useful than other primary school lessons.

Wonderful debate in this thread!

Getting back to the original theme, yesterday I made some bent-welding-rods-in-biro-tubes dowsing rods, and gave them a try out in the field. After some practice I found the rods crossing at various points as I walked, no matter what my direction of approach. I tried again today and found the same thing happened at the same places.

Possible explanations please?

According to the sceptics:
Nothing
It's all in your mind.
You cheated.
It was a placebo effect.
You only imagined it.
It was not repeated so did not happen.
You lied about it.
It's rubbish.

I think myself none of the above are true and you had a blood alcohol level of 235mgms per 100ml of blood...not worthy

you really don't understand probability theory, do you?

until you test every single or married) person on the planet, you cannot state this as fact.

try reading the book 'bad science' ;)

and use a spell-checker, please!

rgds, Tony the Skeptic ( great fan of Diogenes Laertius)

Spellchecker? Why?

Whether dowsing "works" (thats the pragmatic, everyday, common usage of that word) can easily be tested with 483 attempts by the best of a bunch of self proclaimed dowsers to see if they can find water using dowsing rods. As they claimed they could.

Probability doesnt come into it.

As I have said numerous times now, we arent testing/debating whether there is any energy given off by water, we are testing if people holding rods can REPEATEDLY AND RELIABLY find water.

It matters not to me wheather they find their water with said stick or not, nor should it to anyone if it works or not..

I dont think anyone does really care if people think they can dowse, just like I dont really care if people believe in father christmas or the tooth fairy. I do care when people say "it works". Well, 'care' is a strong word...

Not at those occasions or at this time of the day! Are you judging by your own standards? :)

Forget explanations, go earn yourself a million dollars :)

I'd love to, but there's not much chance if the rods are only responding to invisible 'ley-lines', land drains, or stale cow poo, which is more likely here...

The massive Mendip transmitter mast is not far as the electomagnetic waves fly either.

So your also interested in learning to dowse then,of course it works.
You could go on a course to learn how,the BDS runs such courses.

It is no good I can’t resist anymore.
1) I haven’t read anything anywhere that demonstrates dowsing does not work, I have read that the results from various experiments produce results that are inconclusive. Bear in mind it is not two sticks doing the work it is two sticks and the holder. Therefore anyone being experimented on will be slightly stressed and so in a different state to the normal dowsing state.
2) DNA was supposed to be the ultimate unchangeable now we find that there are some bugs that can and do replace phosphorus with arsenic…interesting
3) Water has now been found on the Moon and Mars
What’s the point of all this? Well simply to say that science has found new answers to old questions even cold fusion is getting another turnover… and indeed on another new front there have been microbes found that are able to farm store and otherwise use their bacteria food source. Even to making the bacteria turn to spores for convenient storage.
My view is that the cyto skeleton of cells contains a connection to the quantum world which we don’t understand (inside the tubules) I would really want to fund a research project to examine this.
So what am I rambling about? Well, don’t say conclusively something has been proven unless all the evidence says not… if an experiment produces an 80% result you can say it is likely to be so, if 10 experiments each produce a 100% result you can say it has been demonstrated to be so. Until the atom was split it was thought to be the smallest divisible particle.
But I think this whole “debate” is fascinating please keep adding to it
Oh, I think dousing is an interesting possibility and I am going to try it to see if I can or cant I will let you know the results of my experiment.
