I saw from google, that University of Sussex offered hygienic queens to be sold in the year 2016. The project had private funding. I did not find new information.

Does the project continue in some form?

It seemed, that results did not start to come at once and private funding stopped.

Lets hope that British VSH breeding project will be more easier. In theory the case is easy, as we have just read.

Wellcome to reality

New Zealand started very proud project at 2007 to breed own anti varroa bees. The project collapsed and funding stopped. It is now 15 years from that beginning.

NZ tolerant Carniola bees were imported from Europe, but varroa killing did not work in NZ.

Australia had 10 years Hygienic Bee Project, and then funding stopped. Results were not very good. There was no 100% hygienic breeds after 10 years selecting.

And Australia and NZ has almost whole year around to make breeding work.

It is now 6 years from Lasi project start.
