You can get both types, and both have the edge rebated to fit into the box from above or below.

This is a top 14x12 conversion eke.

The frame rebate will be on top if it's a top fitting eke, and no frame rebate if it's a bottom fitting eke, but both have the locating tongue to fit into the inner side wall rebates of the brood box, top or bottom fitting.
